HISTORY OF EKITI CONFERENCE

BRIEF HISTORY OF EKITI CONFERENCE OF THE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH IN WESTERN NIGERIA UNION CONFERENCE

On Thursday, 3^rd February, 2011, the South West Nigeria Conference (SWNC) during her constituency session at the Conference headquarters, Km 4, Oba-Ile Road, Akure, resolved to restructure the administrative territory of the church as a result of her rapid growth despite her low work force.

It was therefore voted “to reorganize the South West Nigeria Conference into two or more conferences”. The incoming administration was then empowered to implement this in collaboration with the leadership of the North Western Nigeria Union Mission.

As a follow-up, at the Conference Executive Committee meeting, an action – EXCO 201; 058 was taken in line with the Five – Point Agenda of the North Western Nigeria Union Mission to restructure the South West Nigeria Conference into the Conferences of Lagos, Ogun and Ondo – Ekiti. Following the recommendation of the South West Nigeria Conference EXCO to re-organize into three conferences, already voted by the Union Executive Committee at the 2011 Mid-Year meeting, a special (mini) constituency was called on July 17, 2011 for its ratification. The motion to restructure/re-organize into three conferences was moved by Pastor (Dr.) Ezekiel Atolagbe Adeleye and it was seconded by Deacon Sunday O Aremu at 2.37p.m. It was unanimously voted by members.

The elected officers of Ondo – Ekiti Administrative Unit were: Pastor Dr. Ezekiel A. Adeleye, President; Pastor Christopher O. Ogah, Secretary and Deacon Sunday O. Aremu, Treasurer.

However, Ondo – Ekiti Administrative Unit was later re-organized into Ekiti Conference and Ondo Mission in November 2012. Pastor Dr. Ezekiel A. Adeleye, Pastor Christopher O. Ogah, and Elder Gbadura P. Ehuwayijomo were elected President, Executive Secretary and Treasurer of Ekiti Conference respectively at the constituency held at Oke - Ila, Ado Ekiti from November 15^th to17^th, 2012. The officers and Directors were dedicated for service at the SDA Church, Oke-Ila, Ado Ekiti on November 17, 2012 to begin their function in January, 2013. Pastor Adeyinka S. Ogunseitan was elected President and Deacon Sunday Aremu elected the Secretary/Treasurer of Ondo Mission.

Pastor Dr. Ezekiel A. Adeleye, the Pioneer President served for only a year (January to December, 2013) and was elected the Executive Secretary of the Western Nigeria Union Conference. Pastor Oluwafemi Samuel Alofe was elected on the 25^th of October, 2013 to succeed him and complete the term from January 2014 to December 2016. His dedication took place at SDA Church, Oke - Ila, Ado Ekiti on October 26^th, 2013.

The current Officers and Directors of the Conference were elected during the constituency session held at Opopogbooro, Ado Ekiti from November 16^th to 20^th, 2016.

The inaugural service where the Officers and Directors were dedicated was held at the Seventh - day Adventist Church, Opopogboro on November 19, 2016. The service was conducted by the Western Nigeria Union Conference Officers.
